Wicked!!!
Just saw Wicked at the Orpheum in San Francisco, and it was a-maz-ing!
(To be frank, I am a bit partial to Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth. Okay, more than a bit partial. More like seriously-crazy-obsessed. But the cast at the Orpheum did do an amazing job.)
The costumes were fantastic... and the set? Totally freakin' awesome! There is definitely a very distinct aesthetic to the world of Wicked, and it is honestly as integral a part of the musical as anything else, music included.
I am still in awe of anyone being able to summon the amount of vocal stamina necessary to carry on for an ENTIRE show (must be exhausting.) Add to that the masterful comedic timing, acting, dancing, etc, etc, etc, and I am pretty much at a loss for words to describe all the talent flying around on that stage. Jealous? I think so. Impressed? Clearly. Dying to see it again? Um, yes. Yes. A thousand times yes!!!

ooh sounds like a fab time out1 glad you had fun!
ReplyDeleteI saw Wicked for the first time last September in Pittsburgh. I was a bit Wicked obsessed and I loved every single second of the show. I am hoping to get to NYC to see it sometime this Spring or Summer. I'm glad that you enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteAw, I'm glad someone else has seen and appreciated Wicked!
ReplyDeleteI saw the original Broadway cast... :)
Chenoweth was very, very good, but I've seen people better than Idina in LA and London casts! She's OK, definitely... but she never really got better than in Rent, I think.
I echo your thoughts about the set and costumes though. I don't know if the traveling set was as good as the 'main' set on Broadway, but the Broadway set was AMAZING! And HUGE! Loved it!
I always wanted to read Wicked, before I saw it live.
ReplyDeleteI remember a friend of mine had a soundtrack to the musical and it was such a neat thing to listen too.
Emmie - It was fab! Fabbity fab-fab!
ReplyDeleteMandy - aw, lucky you! I want to go too!!!
Sebastian - Okay, I get it, you saw the Broadway production! Good for you! Gah! ( Oh, and that was jealousy, in case you didn't pick up on that :) I don't know who was the best Elphaba ever, but if the soundtrack is anything to go by, Idina pretty much rocks!
Mdm Lefty - Yah, the book and the musical don't really have that much in common, but they are both worth your time, in my opinion!
Sweet. I wished I lived in or near an actual city so I could see actual productions of the musical/theatrical variety. Glad you had fun!
ReplyDeleteBeelzebub - I have a theory that if I lived in NYC, ALL my money would go to seeing Broadway musicals... and of course, buying the merchandise!
ReplyDeletei so badly want to see wicked! i feel as though everyone i know has seen it but i have not. hopefully soon.
ReplyDeletehave a great weekend!
Glad you enjoyed! I saw Wicked on the West End and LOVED it!

ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE Wicked! I'm so glad you got to see it! As much as I idolize Kristen Chenoweth, I think Megan Hilty is my favorite Glinda...
